Festival LOOP 8 October 1st 2016 : Ensemble Fractales

...part is equal to the whole

Fractales is a young ensemble of international musicians based in Brussels. Founded in 2012, during their studies at the Brussels Royal Conservatory, they have decided to form a permanent ensemble, on their common passion for contemporary music.

While Fractales has had a special interest in spectral music, more recently they have been performing a wide variety of contemporary repertoire, including works by Tristan Murail, Gérard Grisey, Yann Robin, Bernhard Gander, Peter Maxwell Davies, Laurent Pigeolet, and Claude Ledoux. The ensemble also actively collaborates with young composers to bring the first audition of their new work.

Active mostly in Belgium, Fractales has been invited to perform at festivals and academies such as Ars Musica, festival BatardWeek of the Contemporary Music, Piknik Music, Studio Spatial, festival Loop, the Summer of Sounds and Schoenberg Centre in Vienna...

The ensemble is actually working under the guidance of the ensemble Ictus and Spectra in an advanced master in contemporary music performance at the School of Arts in Ghent. In 2014, they have also been mentored by the ensemble Recherche.

Fractales was awarded the "Just Composed!" interpretation prize at the International Summer Academy Masterclass in Mürzzuschlag, Austria 2014.
