THE GESTURE IN ELECTROACOUSTIC MUSIC

A TODOR TODOR TODOROFF CONFERENCE

"I have always wanted to reintroduce the gesture in my work with computer music, in order to combine the sound possibilities offered in the digital domain with the expressiveness that instrumental, exploratory, sensual, spontaneous or repeated playing allows. Combining motion capture and sound processing, digital lutherie makes it possible to create new "virtual instruments" where the gesture is no longer constrained by mechanical and acoustic contingencies. In the studio, they allow us to revisit the notion of "sequence-play" of the beginnings of concrete music and to enrich them with the help of alogrithmic virtual devices that can generate both temporal structures and spectral and spatial transformations. Auditory feedback is restored, the musician can intuitively explore new sound worlds by ear.
He can train, perfect his movements, acquire virtuosity, master nuances and give meaning to the material he generates. These same instruments can be used in other contexts: on stage, with acoustic instruments or with dancers, but also for interactive sound installations. The presentation will be illustrated with videos showing several of these applications. »

In 2011, Jean-Pierre Deleuze composed Meguru, a piece for baritone and quintet, commissioned by Het Collectief and focused on the Japanese philosophy of life. To complete this awareness, Deleuze composed Le jardin nu in 2019, this time with mezzosoprano, so that the two are put in a harmonious "yin yang" relationship.
This new creation is enriched by a commentary by het Collectief in the form of an execution of Hosokawa's Stunden-Blumen, a piece that is approximately the opposite of Messiaen's "Quartet for the End of Time": in nature, everything returns, each end is a new beginning.
The programme will be completed by Trecce di Threni, a superb tribute by Michel Fourgon to Luciano Berio and a new work by Bram Van Camp, whose title communicates that it wants to be pure and simple music.
