Lettre soufie : K(âf)

2006
Lettre Soufie: Kàffor orchestra (2005-2006) is the reversal of a space, the openness of a perspective initially closed, a movement toward the light. Everything is simple here, trite, almost likeable (the sufi symbolic correspondance chart used for my differentLettres Soufiesshows for this arabic letter: love, sun, « that is sufficient», 111, sheets of white roses): asserted pulse, a single harmonic gesture that unfolds first in wide descending scales, the near-obscene salience of a biased diatonicism. In some places are signs of a difficult change leading to the gradual reversal, in huge ascending «arpeggios», with which any music line freely nested in search of an endless accumulation: a state the can accommodate everything. Saturation.

Kàfis dedicated to Eva Lafontaine, in the hope that she has reached such a state…
Lettre Soufie: Kàfwas commissioned by the Palais des Beaux-Arts and realized with the support from the Communauté française de Belgique (Direction générale de la Culture, Service de la Musique) and Fondation Spes.
